Work In Progress

A nation formed by those who saw the destruction of their homeworld from the Last War of Hassan, and sought to start a new life on a new world, hopefully not tied down too heavily by the acts, sins and motives of the past. While they would try and learn of it from those who awoke, the majority of it would be to view it with a glass window. A thing to be seen, not touched. Establishing a new nation however, is full of trials and tribulations that not everyone was prepared for.

Not everyone woken from cryosleep appreciate the new world or nation they find themselves in, many have accepted it and lent their knowledge and skill to helping make this nation a place to be proud of in relation to their old.

History

Here is the more or less complete history of the shard, for as far as they are aware at the very least.

Pre-Exodus

For the last 200 years, their world was slowly torn asunder, by the ignorance of those with power and a greed for knowledge. What once was a beautiful planet, full of life, and civilizations of diverse people. Were turned into scarred lands, struggling to support what life remained. Most settlements and major epicenters of the last populations, migrated more towards the poles, where the climate was livable.

This world had been called a singular name once, but as various cultures rose from every corner, the name was lost and blurred within the mass of different dialects. Dominantly dubbed Haran by those still unfortunate to call it home, and by the wealthy elites sitting in their ivory technological spires. Wars were waged in its name, some for the world itself, and even for what little left it had to offer. Dividing people, states, and what ideologies even survived the degradation of the state of Hassan.

Mankind wasn’t the only ones to count Haran home either, as things akin to legend, still clung to life on its soil. Now knocked to the same levels of minority that they had once shoved these legendary races into. The large, four armed Onikiri, the elven sykian, half serpent Ahsapa, and even those who had communed and mixed with the blood of the old gods. Mankind, and the Sykian were those of the two more well off civilizations. The Sykian lived in environmentally controlled megacity domes, built upon the ocean floors around the poles.

Governed by a council of clans, they once warred in their own differences, but united during Hassan’s final century of bearing life. They, out of all other races, lived more peacefully with the energies of the world, knowing things even akin to magic at one time. But magic was long gone from the world they now knew, using only cheap alchemic facsimile to mimic the process and function. For several centuries, they endured wars, and kept their sovereign peace under the waves. Even as word of great change, and a final hope emerged, they were reluctant at first to believe it.

Tales of a great union of species were forming, to finally pull Hassan’s peoples together once again, and even leave the dying shell of a world. Plans were put in motion to meet with representatives of this union, and hear of the changes undergoing around the planet once again. A small hope coming out of one last world war, and hopefully the final one, as most of the elders had fought in the last such war. The very same that had left the most numerous, and freshest scars on the planet.

-From the Journal of Dante Ven'Adama

For as far as most modern historians of the NDC can tell, most of the vague events of this account are reported to be accurate. And was dated as being written in the year just prior to the great exodus, which lasted ten years of arduous FTL7) transit. It was a stellar slog where everything of value, or potential resources was dragged with the expansive fleet of Hassan survivors that they could carry. Most slept in cryosleep for the journey, save for those who suffered a rare allergy towards the method of inducing the artificial state at the time, or had exceptionally long life span. It would not be until reaching the Sanctuary Star System, that the great exodus was considered officially at an end, and the planned form of government during the trip was instituted.

Post Exodus

50 years ago after the great Hassan Exodus, the now dubbed Duskerians arrived in a fleet of colony ships from their doomed homeworld of origin. Here they made landfall and began dialogue with the natives once a beach head was developed. Relegating their presence to a small coastal inland gulf, began to build the foundations of what would later be Obsidian City. Originally begun by excavating down into a small island, which was expanded with the earth dug out. Atop this new base, was a large platform started as a landing point and resource hub for further land operations. During this time, there was more then hurdles presented by the large and somewhat aggressive fauna of Sirris II, who proved dangerous without significant firepower.

With the basic platform and mining operations underway, construction facilities were begun to be built once a bridge was made to connect it to shore. This only increased their encounters with the local fauna, which prompted even more severe security measures in an effort to clear the area for workers and colonists. Within two years, a safe area was established with the few passes into the area of land surrounded by tall mountains, were sealed off with fortification and military trench lines. From here, progress began in earnest and was able to accelerate far more then before.

The factory and farm complexes came next, warehouses and depots, then the habitation compound and secondary mine dug at the base of the mountains. It was at this point that the platform was further expanded, and was developed more and more with every cycle, into a bastion of civilization for the Duskerians. Technology and research began to flourish as more facilities were built and a full starport were added in extension. With the safety net system at the opening of the gulf, soon even the surrounding waters were made safe, and a fishery was constructed. Soon the defense walls and districts were slowly built up over the next three years. Even as the twin moons were developed into mass complexes of development and infrastructure, the first land made settlement had always been planned to be the capital of the world they would call home.

Prospering as colonists were thawed in droves, the following years would see contact furthered with not only the locals, but first contact with races such as the star fairing Senti. After some time to fully understand the local languages of the Tumnisians and Vaigarin, talks and diplomacy with the natives began. Where the NDC promised to stay hands off of the governance and affairs of the natives, would act as their guardians on the galactic stage. With the finalization of relations, the first two archdukes of the New Dusk Conclaves were officially coronated to the twin thrones with full ceremonial recognition, and made the city the seat of their power for the developing nation.

Demographics

Here are the general aspects of the society that the NDC has made strides to build ideally.

Population

Thanks to a resurgence in birth rate, the batch birthing of some races, and inclusion of races of synthetic nature under the Digital Life Act of APE8)10. The NDC population has seen a great boom census tallies for the last forty or so years, bringing a population originally only numbering in the millions, to that of several billion and counting. It is a diverse society of many races, including such as the Onikari, Sykians, Ahasapa, Humans, Operators, and various synthetic originating lifeforms. In recent decades, this as seen a few additions of Tumnisians, Vaigarin, and Senti in small handfulls.

Language

Originally each race had their own unique mother tongue, but as they began to mix and cooperate over the centuries far back into the AAE9) era of old, sought a common tongue to be understood by all. This would later be come referred to as Hassan Common, which grew into standard education and use through the following decades that came after. It is still the main spoken and written language of the NDC peoples, though discussion of a new adaptive language has been proposed by some with the further inclusion of other races.

Religion

In the wake of the terrible of events of the Anno Ante Exodum era, most religions were left as hollow vague vestiges of their former followings. Most are remembered inaccurately, having had to primarily rely on spoken passing, from one person to another. Now in the era of Anno Post Exodum, not much has changed other then most abandoning religion as a practice. However it has not been completely so, and has seem a minor resurgence among the scientific community in the form of the Soulweaver Religion, which is seen as the validating view for seeing synthetic life as equals.

In more recent years, a more monastic, or cult like following has been brought about in the wake of the emergence of “The Spire”. Those who have come to worship the otherworldly structure, and the dark figure who calls it home, have been heard chanting “Ave Maria” in the night by candlelight.

Government and Politics

Here are the inner workings of the New Dusk Conclave.

Core Worlds

The Crown

The NDC is strange in its structure as the nation goes for an unorthodox form of monarchy style system of governance. The executive power is held by the two Archdukes, who split control of militant forces, and handle decisions for the nation as a government entity. One Archduke, controls the armed forces, while the other controls the navy with aerospace elements split between. Both of these rulers, are backed by the highest ranked member of either service, both as representative on their behalf, and as advisors. Day to day government operation is handled by a council of twelve, who consist of the heads of each government department. Each of said departments are related to a specific field of infrastructure, government operation, economic, or social matters.

The local Level

On a local level, the day to day ordinance and regulations, are handled by an occupation based dual house clan and cadre councils respectively. Each clan is a group based around specific professions, or specific occupations. Cadres on the other hand, are more based around general fields of profession, or occupation fields.

Outer Rim Systems

The NDC crown hands titles of nobility to capable individuals of note, who have submitted a solid and stable plan for colonization. Said individual must respect the laws of the crown within their territory as an extension to NDC's reach of influence. They may establish laws around those pre-existing of the crown, as they see fit to further the governance of their territory. Said noble is in charge of raising armed forces, development, infrastructure arrangement, and organization of space forces for their colony. They are free from overview in most cases, unless suspicion of inappropriate, or illegal actions have been committed.

The crown gives minimal support, unless on an emergency basis, but offers procurement of supplies and equipment to colonies. Inducted races and worlds, are by extension, considered colonies on paper. Their systems of government are left with minimal interference, unless such practices go against current NDC laws and regulations. Induction is open to any who wish to formally appeal for it, and are willing to accept such law and regulations, but can be denied based on the decision of the crown and council. Additionally, colonies are greatly encouraged to optimize for specific functions and resource collection, to further improve the prosperity of the NDC as a whole in the long term.

Economy

With an economy established on the fixed value of an items worth, the primary means of finances is the Duskarian script, which is based on three specific resources: Water, Steel, and Carbon. This is due to their value in supporting key functions of the nation.

Resources

While the NDC does use various materials and resources for all sorts of tasks, the trifecta of water, steel and carbon were chosen for their focus on specific fields. Most of these are mined and processed by the Mining Guild, in various operations around Obsidian City, and their hub of operations in the Secunda Major Star System.

  • Water for it's value in supporting life and ensuring the stable running of various operations of machinery and structures.
  • Steel for it's value in construction, used as a basis for the needs of building not only buildings, but ships, vehicles and various pieces of equipment.
  • Carbon was chosen for it's value in filling in for all sorts of resources to make materials such as graphene and electronic systems, as well as the foundation for many other things used to facilitate development.

While the above are chosen for their specific purposes, the NDC does acknowledge that there are better options than those three for the same roles, but with those trio set as the base of what is used, it helps establish a value to the rest.

Scripts

Duskarian Scripts11) are available in two forms - A physical graphene sheet that represents a fixed amount as determined by the amount printed onto it. They can be given to a federal accounting service, most supported by the government, to be turned into a digital form, to allow for purchases either over long distance or from a digital storefront. While the transfers are handled, the physical script is also often moved to facilitate the transfer of ownership.
