Shadowkin

In the aftermath of the Isferatos (Shadow Demons) attack on the Shadowkin, a profound transformation occurred, marking a pivotal moment in their history. The Isferatos, shadow demons driven by a hunger for essence, sought to claim the essence of the Shadowkin, but they underestimated the resilience and cunning of their prey.

The Shadowkin, with their sharpened intellects and disciplined minds honed through rigorous scholarly pursuits, had unknowingly prepared themselves for such a threat. Their relentless pursuit of knowledge and mastery over their own beings had equipped them with a formidable defense against the Isferatos' malevolent intentions.

As the shadow demons attempted to possess them, they were met with an unexpected resistance. The Isferatos, accustomed to preying on beings with weaker wills, found themselves ensnared in a trap of their own making. The Shadowkin, leveraging their intellect and strength, turned the tables on their assailants, refusing to yield an inch.

Through sheer determination and mastery over their own selves, the Shadowkin overcame the Isferatos, shattering their very essence and absorbing their powers. This unexpected turn of events bestowed upon the Shadowkin a newfound sentience, infused with the energies once wielded by their would-be tormentors.

However, this transformation was not without its challenges. Having transcended their previous existence, the newly empowered Shadowkin found themselves navigating uncharted territory. They now bore the responsibility of mastering their newfound abilities, harnessing the potent energies they had acquired through their triumph over the Isferatos.

With time, dedication, and unwavering resolve, the Shadowkin embarked on a journey of self-discovery and mastery. They delved into the depths of their new forms, honing their skills and unlocking the full potential of their newfound powers. Though their origins may have been unconventional, the Shadowkin embraced their destiny with determination, forging ahead as guardians of their realm, forever vigilant against the encroaching darkness.

Creation

The genesis of the Shadowkin is shrouded in the crucible of conflict, forged amidst the chaos of battle against the relentless Isferatos. In those fateful moments when the shadow demons attempted to claim dominion over the minds of the Shadowkin, they encountered an unexpected barrier, a resilience born of intellect and indomitable will.

As the Isferatos sought to infiltrate the minds of their would-be victims, they found themselves ensnared in a struggle unlike any they had encountered before. The minds of the Shadowkin proved to be formidable fortresses, fortified by years of scholarly pursuit and unyielding discipline. Yet, in their desperation, the shadow demons unwittingly sowed the seeds of their own demise.

In the throes of battle, a small fragment of the Isferatos' essence lingered, resisting annihilation even in the face of defeat. This remnant, imbued with the raw energy of the shadow demons, sought refuge within the very minds it had sought to conquer. In its merging with the minds and bodies of the Shadowkin, a metamorphosis occurred, altering both physiology and consciousness in equal measure.

The fusion of Isferatos' essence with the essence of the Shadowkin gave rise to a new entity—the Shadowkin—a race born from the crucible of conflict, forever marked by the scars of their origins. Though the demon itself was vanquished, its legacy endured within the very essence of those it had sought to subjugate.

With the destruction of their adversary, the Shadowkin emerged as a new force to be reckoned with, their minds now infused with the latent power of the Isferatos. Yet, with this newfound power came a grave responsibility—a constant vigilance against the darkness that had birthed them.

As they grappled with their newfound identity, the Shadowkin forged a path forward, their existence now intertwined with the eternal struggle against the forces of shadow. Though their origins may have been born of conflict, the Shadowkin stood resolute, united in their determination to defend against the encroaching darkness and to ensure that the legacy of the Isferatos would never again threaten their realm.

History

After the Shadowkin learned of their powers ad what they could do, and with the universe in chaos as a result of the Isferatos, the Shadowkin felt that they should ally with the good and fight the Shadow demons as well as any other demon that would dare threaten peace. The Shadowkin were aided by Priests and Priestesses who joined the battle and the two groups fought the Demon hoards. Sometimes the demon gained an upper hand and sometimes it was the priests and priestesses. With Shadowkin aiding them, the good guys win a great deal of battles. With the Priest and Priestesses, they gained new allies and friends. The Shadowkin people grew as more of the attacks happened, including Elves who in their hubris tried to control the Isferatos and turn them into weapons.

The battle soon became a sort of cleanup, to deal with the last Isferatos, but one of the Isferatos had managed to escape from being killed and went into hiding as they tried to bide their time and regrow their race. With no Isferatos found, the Shadowkin set about learning and studying their species and recording everything in tomes which were kept in strongholds. The builders amongst the species created ships even those that could enter space, and the strongholds that would accept the Shadowkin.

Shadowkin fought demons and fought for people, but eventually they passed into legend and were given names that of Ninja, as like them they could use stealth and invisibility to kill. Until a millennia ago, the Isferatos grew once more to be a threat, and a young woman on a far off planet became a Isferatos, and was able to use the skills of her old clan to fight back and help people.

Habitat and Population

The architecture of the Shadowkin tells a tale of resilience and adaptation, a reflection of their tumultuous history and their enduring spirit. Originally finding refuge within the shelters of their ancestral people's architecture, the Shadowkin forged a connection with the structures that sheltered them, imbuing them with a sense of home and belonging.

As time passed and the Shadowkin loved on, their need for fortified strongholds became apparent. Drawing inspiration from the diverse architectural styles of their ancestral species, the group embarked on a remarkable endeavor—to construct strongholds that would stand as a testament to unity amidst diversity.

The eventual strongholds of the Shadowkin were not mere amalgamations of disparate cultures, but rather meticulously crafted edifices that seamlessly blended the architectural nuances of each species. Through careful planning and collaboration, the Shadowkin erected structures that transcended cultural boundaries, embodying a harmonious fusion of form and function.

However, the passage of time has not been kind to these once-proud strongholds. With the Shadowkin population dwindling, the maintenance of these monumental structures has fallen by the wayside. Many now stand as silent monuments to a bygone era, their grandeur faded and their foundations weakened by neglect.

For those Shadowkin who find themselves without a clan or family to call their own, the search for refuge takes them far and wide. Some may seek solace in the abandoned corridors of their ancestral strongholds, reclaiming these forgotten spaces as their own. Others may venture beyond familiar borders, seeking companionship and camaraderie amongst species who share their plight.

In their quest for belonging, the Shadowkin defy conventional boundaries, forging bonds with individuals who may not share their lineage but understand the weight of solitude. These makeshift communities, born from necessity and forged in solidarity, serve as beacons of hope in a universe plagued by uncertainty.

Though the halls of their ancestral strongholds may echo with the whispers of a fading legacy, the spirit of the Shadowkin endures—a testament to their resilience, their adaptability, and their unwavering determination to carve out a place for themselves in the vast expanse of the cosmos.

Biology

Shadowkin are generally solid carbon-based life forms, though this willdepend on the specific species.

Anatomy and Physiology

like any humanoid, the average Shadowkin stands at Male: 176.5 cm while an average female would be shorter at 163 cm. This may vary, however, depending on how tall or short they were before their encounter. As a result of their encounter, they have red eyes that sometimes glows depending on the illumination of the area, and They do have sexual traits common among hominid species, in a primary bell curve of male to female. Despite this anatomical trait, however, they can't reproduce and create more Shadowkin as the species now resides only with them and them alone. It isn't to say they are sterile, they can reproduce just the chances of the offspring being a shadowkin like they may require advanced technology and magic combined, but it's never been done before.

Genetics

Shadowkin at least those of the Makoto clan lineage uses a 23 chromosome XX/XY sex chromosome pattern, giving their species a visible difference in both male and female of the species, though this may be different from those of other species who became Shadowkin. Commonly though the species is a carbon based lifeform as such, they are able to eat most foods without getting sick or dying. The chances of producing an offspring are high, but the offspring will be of the parent species that they were born with, not Shadowkin.

Life Cycle

The effect of becoming Shadowkin has caused the parts of their chromosomes to become deactivated this allows the Shadowkom to live for more than a thousand years of life. But that isn't to say that they can't die, they can if killed by an outside interference.

Diet

Most Shadowkin are a carbon based life form, and as such they are capable of eating most foods. Those of Makoto’s clan preferred a diet rich in protein to allow them to grow into a healthy adult. It wouldn’t hurt any Shadowkin to indulge in sweet based foods for a treat every now and then, but it depends on the specific Shadowkin and their preference.

Biological Variation

As a result of the Shadowkin species not being a species that people are born in, they can be a very diverse people. Some can look like elves, others can look human, or even Zuphin, or animalian It all depends on the person and how they appeared but thee is one thing that sets them all as the same race, red eyes

Psychology

Motivation and Emotion

For the Shadowkin, they're motivated to stop their “cousins” though a few that don’t know that there were any Isferatos around them, those can be motivated by money, and power as such, they can form contracts like any demons and join those they respect, even love to help them out or hang with them. The Sentients can feel emotions like any species, including humans.

Sexuality and Love

It depends on the Shadowkin what attracts them would depend on that. If they were attracted to their gender, then they would. Shadowkin can be human as such they’d likely have the sexuality and love as a human would

Culture

Language

They speak common, though like any demon they could use special magic that allows them to easily learn new languages if so desired.

Naming

Shadowkin could have been born of any species in the universe as such they’d be given names based in the same convention.

The Arts

Art is an expression of a person, and for most species out there it is valued, and so too is art valued by a Shadowkin. They might be affected by their species' art, and to keep a claim on their species they might try to create art whether that is painting including calligraphy or music. Creation, as in books are also a way for Shadowkin to pass down knowledge to the younger generation.

Attire

Shadowkin prefer to remain without clothing as this makes it easier for them to make their invisibility more effective. Though to the other people they do use illusion to make others think they are wearing clothes, but only those they are very close to and trust would know otherwise.

Philosophy

For Shadowkin, their philosophy may be shaped by their environment or upbringing, making it truly unique to them.

Society

Kinship

As sentient beings the Shadowkin may meet others and after a period of dating them, or the three, they may decide on marriage, and start a family. It will of course depend on the Individual.

Government and Politics

Shadowkin in the ancient past preferred to form groups called “Clans” as their government where they’d be able to go for unity and support. This was because the numbers in those days were high to require it, but due to the numbers in the current era not being there, it would force forcing the individual to find support somewhere else. There are vaults where the clan have stores, books on their race and anything a new Shadowkin might need. Where the individual cant find a clan of Isferatos, they may find something similar elsewhere, including working and pacting with a Witch.

Conflict

Shadowkin are generally the sort of people that will leave most sentient beings alone, only attacking them, if they are attacked or if they had to in the name of justice. In addition a contract may require them to attack someone. As the most senior of all current Shadowkin is a citizen of the United Alliance of Neutral Systems the chances of them attacking others unless a pirate is very low.

Innate Abilities

  • Shadow Step
  • Invisibility
  • Demon Strength
  • Telekinesis
  • Starship bonding.
  • Presence Sensing

Shadow Step

Shadow Step is an ability where someone can use shadow magic, or a Isferatos ability to move at a accelerated rate to get from one area to another quickly. This can be useful if someone needs to go to stop a door from closing.

Invisibility

Certain Isferatos and dark magic users can bend light around themselves and in effect turn themselves invisible. Unfortunately, clothing doesn’t turn invisible along with them, which forces them to either go without or find some other way. They can't be seen by anything and they don’t leave a shadow if the area is well lit.

Demon Strength

Isferatos are a race of demons so with a physical body like the Sentients have, their strength is greater than a human. They are likely able to knock out a human easily enough, and break the doors down and be a match for heavy gravity worlders. 1)

Presence Sensing

A Shadowkin might be able to sense the presence of Isferatos (Shadow Demons) as they hunt them, and they may be able to sense others who may be using technology that renders someone invisible.
