Nalden

The Nalden are a race of beings coming from a desert planet known as Everan, they appear as beings with an almost colored exoskeleton with cracked texture and reddish veiny flesh underneath.

History

The Nalden people were once a series of Nomadic tribes existing On the desert planet they called home. splintered into multiple cultures and sects each group of tribes specialized in something from trade and sciences, to combat and Diplomacy. For a time there was peace, around however, was the year of the great Harrowing when a Nalden decided to attempt to conquer the other tribes and interrupt the balance as it were. Building large walled cities and armies to take over the tribes. This was the start of the unification war or the great harrowing as some refer to it.

Millions died in the war one after another the tribes were brought to heel by force until they were one unified people. However, to keep the people unified and not break away at any chance they get steps were taken by the new leader. Great libraries were burned and elders of all the tribes, even his own were killed en masse. Removing any history of the people ever being not unified.

This process would continue for the next 10 years, which was the greatest time for the people in the peace that followed. With a technological boom and even the first satellite launched into space being great milestones for their people. In an attempt to talk to those among the stars unfortunately, something answered. Great fire and destruction were brought down on the Nalden people from an invasion from beyond the stars.

They were by no means space-faring yet and their technology was pitiful by comparison to the horrible machines that attacked them for their planet was rich in fossil fuels. The machines from beyond the stars intended to subjugate the people who complied with its takeover and kill those who did not. Yet for a time the Naldens fought. Not much is known about what happened to the Nalden

Physiology

Nalden is a boneless species with serrated teeth, the Naldens are virtually a formless jumble of corded muscle and nerve bundles. Because of this, Nalden typically resides in their exoskeleton that can take a humanoid appearance. This exoskeleton is comparable to baseline humans outside of its durability. The few distinct features of a Nalden would be the color of its exoskeleton based on its cast and the color of its plumage that comes out from the top of the exoskeleton looking like hair. The Nalden is divided into four separate caste systems each with its differences from the others.

  • Diplomatic caste: The diplomatic caste shares skill sets to interact with each other forming Diplomatic relations with each other and the other casts. Their Hair plumage would be a gold color while their exoskeleton would have a white marble texture with gold eyes.
  • Science caste: The science caste skillsets are around the sciences and arts of their people. They're responsible for recording the history and advancing the technology of their people. Their exoskeleton takes on a sandstone color with a rough texture and green hair plumage and eyes.
  • The Multicaste: Is a caste that came to be after the occupation of their robotic overlords. Due to the following casts being significantly lowered in numbers inter cast breeding took place those born from this cast share the jobs of both parents while taking traits in the form of their hair plumage and exoskeleton.
  • The Warrior caste: This caste is responsible for maintaining security and fighting wars. When in peacetime however they form the labor force of their people. Their distinguishing features are represented in the form of red hair plumage and obsidian-colored skin.

Diet

The diet of the Naldens is oil and mineral-rich food, fish and other red meats as well as nuts. When times are tough they may eat a soup composed of natural minerals ground up and mixed with fossil fuels.

Environment

The Environment of this species is a desert world. Incidentally, they tend to live in mud and thatch structures peppered around their planet, usually near sources of water in the forms of Osises. This may work for the Multicaste or the science caste however for the diplomatic caste they live on the wet side of the planet in its sparse jungle areas in treetop housing structures far above what they believe their lessers. The warrior caste lives in the mountain of their world ready at a moment's notice when not tending to livestock and farming. their homes carved into the sides of these mountains.

Life Cycle

All cast life cycles are the same, that being said with a lifespan of 300 years it begins in the first six month of their life. Due to the reproductive capabilities of their people, one of the mates separates their inner form and attaches to the other mate. At this point for the next 6 months. This sudo budding process begins copying over DNA from the other mate and shared memories from the mate, building a psionic connection between the two of them.

After 6 months the organism falls off and crystallizes itself in the form of a stony egg as it gestates for another 6 months. At that point, the creature in this form hatches from the shell what comes out is a humanoid form covered in an almost transparent exoskeleton. In this form it's very susceptible to other predators and will instinctively look to the nearest adult for protection, If it can't sense its parents psionic signature nearby.

Within the next 10 years, the body of the offspring would begin to come to its parent's full height as it grows into its exoskeleton. Once fully developed it would begin learning from its parents how to act within its caste from dedicated to job training. After 100 years it has a coming-of-age test which is different depending on the caste. Once complete the Nalden is considered an adult and expected to fulfill its caste roll or rolls. When they begin getting to the end of their life cycle there are two options for it. Go on the walk of the ancients, where they would begin to pick up on the distant psionic signatures of their people and walk in that direction. Their exoskeleton during this time would no longer be molting as it overgrows and slowly throughout this walk entombing them as they pass on, their psionic signature by this point leaving their body and becoming one with the planet. The other option is to become a ghost becoming a synthetic Nalden, the synthetic body capable of all the same features of the pure Naldens. The ghosts by this point are meant to venture away from the planet in the hope to make a connection with people among the stars for their people.

Gender

Gender roles are nearly non-existent both male and female genders exist but due to the body types of the Nalden being devoid of common distinguishing features most tell the difference between each other based on their psionic signature.

Culture

Naldens art has a deep heritage that extends back in time to the times of the tribes and refers to all works of visual art originating from the desert region since the tribal periods. Neldan tribal art include favorite subjects such as The ancients, either alone or with worshippers, and animals in several types of scenes: repeated in rows, single, fighting each other or a beast, confronted animals by themselves or flanking a Nalden or Ancient in the Master of Animals motif, or a Tree of Life.

Poetry is the most dominant form of literature on Everan. Often in the form of epics. The most well known on their planet is the epic about how the ancients came from the stars and with their power started the first civilization of the Naldnes.

Clothing

The clothing of the Neldens is diverse to say the least. Diplomatic cast Naldens wear long robes made of regal cloths of green and gold. where as the science and multicast wear clothes of simpler cloth brown or tan pants and shirts. The warrior cast tends to wear sleeveless or more breathable clothes as they go about their day to day activities. In wartime the only difference in clothing comes from the warrior caste opting to wear armor made of multiple layers of animal hide and fiber cloth in the form of flak jackets; these would then be dyed grayish as most of their operations would take place during the night.

Food

The Nalden foodstuffs contain a carnivorous diet of poultry fish and various red meats high in trans fats and other oils. This is coupled with nuts and lagoons with aromatic spices and served in some form of oil and mineral bread on the side.

Language

Outside of Trade thanks to Nalden ghosts. The Nalden native language is more or less non-existent as they usually prefer to talk amongst themselves with telepathy so they may speak freely if around their overlords.

Naming

The naming practices of the Nalden are strange to most as they are split into three separate names. These names are based on; Cast name, parental name, and elder name. The cast name is what your cast refers to you as. The parental name is what your parents call you and the elder name is what you shall be called when you become an elder which is the last 50 years of their lifespan. These names tend to be abbreviated into three letter names for those outside of their people to call them.

Politics

The government structure of the Naldens is fairly simplified due to the small population of them compared to other civilizations. The Naldens caste system or division of labor splits the populace into 3 cases further split into two sub castes. Each caste and subcaste then elects an elder from their caste to serve as their representative on a council. This council decides on the important decisions of the Naldens from day to day life all the way to weather or not to ask for help outside of their planet.

Technology

The Technology of the Naldens is extraordinarily primitive. they as a people don't have FTL technology, and their spacecraft are limited to travel within their Solar system as even that still takes years to get around. On the planet their modes of transportation are still heavy metal and gas fueled vehicles. their military forces are further limited with no power armor mechs or energy weapons. utilizing more artillery and mortar batteries and ballistic weapons. In terms of body armor the military forces use ballistic fiber and hide as a form of flak vests.

The Only advanced technology is provided by the robotic overlords Via Biological synthetic bodies to continue servitude after death.

Economy

Due to the isolated nature of the Nalden people their society doesn't have a currency and instead does trade in resources.

Conflict

Required. Is this species violent? Do they war amongst themselves or with others? Do they harm each other?
