Revolutionary Engine Extension Endragon’s

Dragons may be NPC’d by their pilots or rp’d by other players. The main player of Dragons is Aistiva.

Work In Progress. Last updated 4/11/24

Elevator pitch of the (SPECIES). Two easily-readable paragraphs, tops. Concise is fine.

The goals of a species article are to make it easy for players to understand what your species is, how they fit into the roleplay, and how to make a member of the species if they so desire. To be successful, your article will need to strike a balance between being short enough to be easy to read, while having enough detail to allow someone making a character to have all the information they need.

If you can find a way to re-phrase something long into a single sentence without losing important details, you probably should. Clarity is key. :)

Physiology

Endragons produce a passive ionic energy that is utilized by the people who fly them and is also what enables the dragons to fly transformed without flapping their wings.

  • Lifespan: 1200 years or more.
  • Flying speed untransformed: coming soon

History

Originally Vaigarin, when a handful of eggs got lost and pulled through a portal, the hatchlings arrive on Ereshkigal. These would become the first Endragons, changing vastly to adapt to Ereshkigals environment and losing their knowledge of shapeshifting, created an entire separate subspecies, viewed more as a distant cousin of the Vaigarin; than a Vaigarin at all.

Ionic energy

When the eggs got sucked through the portal, this forever altered their bodies and charged them with this energy, which they passed down to their young becoming a permanent part of their biology.

Habitat and Population

Endragon's populate all of Ereshkigal, their patterns and additions varying to fit the exact biome they inhabit. Currently their numbers remain fairly low due to the way they bring up their offspring and persistent threat from Varcolacs

Biology

Anatomy and Physiology

  • Height: Ranging from 20-35 feet tall
  • Weight: coming

Required. Description of the layout of the species' body, how it works, general information about height, weight, etc.

The stay apparatus: Endragons posses this unique “locking” feature within their wings, locking their wings into a stiff folded position that enables them capable of transformation, this combined with their passive ionic energy ensures flight without flapping their wings.

The stay apparatus is a group of ligaments, tendons and muscles which “lock” major joints in the limbs of the horse. It is best known as the mechanism by which horses can enter a light sleep while still standing up. It does, however, exist in other large land mammals, where it plays a role in reducing fatigue while standing. The stay apparatus allows animals to relax their muscles and doze without collapsing. The stay apparatus is an arrangement of muscles, tendons and ligaments that work together so that an animal can remain standing with virtually no muscular effort.

Genetics

  • Optional. How do the genetics for this species work?

Life Cycle

  • Endragons come together only to mate, laying their eggs high in safe spaces such as mountains or deep below the earth in caves. Once the eggs are laid & incubated the parents separate and leave the hatchlings to fend for themselves. They receive no parental care and being unable to fly upon hatching often will eat their siblings leaving only 1 or 2 from each clutch to survive.

Diet

  • Carnivores, Endragons will feast on just about anything that crosses their path and must consume about 15 to 20 percent of their body weight each day. Many of them seem to take a particular liking to fish.

Biological Variation

  • Size & Build: Varies greatly, from slender and agile to bulky and strong or anywhere in between.
  • Colors: While variations do occur depending on exactly where on the planet they come from, Endragons typically resemble that of their home world; Erishkigal. Sporting primarily natural dark colors (black, grey, dark grey-blues, burgundy's, eggplant purple & some times brown) with fleckings and touches of neon accents in almost any color that almost always glow.
  • Limbs: Endragons can come in either quadruped (four legs with two wings) or theropod (two rear legs, wings attached to the forelimbs) variations.

Psychology

Sentience & Intellect

  • Endragons are very much sentient and have intelligence comparable to humans, they're very capable of problem solving and decision making, and with their telepathy they can speak fluently.
  • The main thing that differs from humans to these dragons, is that the dragons are very influenced by their emotions and aren't capable of separating the line between emotions and reason.

Motivation and Emotion

  • Required. What drives individuals in this species? What are their emotions like? Feel free to compare them to humans, since we're familiar with that. No need to explain what happy or sad is - just talk about what is specific to this species.

Sexuality and Love

  • What attracts members of this species to others? Who are they attracted to? Do they feel love and, if so, how is it different (or the same) as humans?

Society

Kinship

  • A highly solitary predator, Endragons rarely tolerate company from their own kind except for the purpose of breeding. In which they will only come together for a few short days in order to conceive a clutch, they then go their separate ways and the mother raises the young on her own. As soon as the young are able to fend for themselves, she will chase them from the nest.

Conflict

  • Required. Is this species violent? Do they war amongst themselves or with others? Do they harm each other?

How to train your Endragon

The Bond

Interconnectivity: pilots and their dragons bond with a mental link which enables easy communication during flight. The Dragons can communicate telepathically with their pilot only once the bond has been made and may even be able to sense their pilots emotional status. Because of this they are known for bonding closely with their pilot and thus far have never been known to allow a different pilot to fly with them. They may become aggressive, difficult, stubborn and uncooperative with pilots or people that are not their own making them impossible to work with. People may train to become pilots, but at the end of the day it’s the dragons that will choose their riders

  • A dragon losing their pilot, or vice versa: Oftentimes an Endragon losing their pilot is far worse than a pilot losing their dragon. A dragon's pilot becomes the creature's entire world and single utmost concern. Endragons may sink into deep depression, or may become moody and aggressive during their grieving period. They often find it extremely difficult to bond with another pilot and some never will again.

Typically they have an easier time accepting a new pilot if their pilot is lost in non-traumatic ways such as retirement or old age.

Dragon Training

  • Never act out violently toward your Endragon, while some may be receptive to Pilots that are more stern or some may require a more firm hand, most are stubborn creatures and will only become more difficult to work with and sometimes even aggressive if they are treated poorly.

More training information coming soon

Pilots

  • Pilots & flying with your Endragon: Pilots undergo special training both on and off of their Endragons to ensure they understand how to work with and care for their companion. More is coming soon.
  • Pilot gear; Coming soon, need special gear to protect themselves from the Endragons body heat. Flying occurs on the dragon's back closest to the base of its neck, usually with a special saddle custom made and fitted for both individuals.

Dragon Armor, Gear & Equipment

  • Armor & gear: An Endragon's gear is essential not only as protective armor but it also enables them to transform into different variations of single person crafts to disguise their true identity. The armor typically covers almost all parts of the dragon's body, including their head, neck, chest, stomach, legs, wings and tail. This armor is typically made up of hardier materials on their vulnerable areas such as their throat and stomach.
  • Endragons should be offered periodic breaks from their gear not just being allowed to come out of their transformed state, but also complete removal of their equipment should be practiced at least every few days. They should undergo inspections to ensure their gear is not rubbing or causing painful sores.

Transforming

Transforming enables Endragons to be utilized as a power source and allows them to fall into a more passive and relaxed state, this is essential to ensure while their energy is being utilized, they are not overextending themselves. Endragons cannot transform or move the gear without the help of their pilot initiating the gears rotation capabilities, nor can they put the gear on or off without assistance.

  • How they transform: Endragons bodies will fold, their legs will tuck up against their chest & stomach, their wings will fold in and their tails will tuck against their bellies thus resulting in connection of the pieces of their gear. The gear will typically move, folding over their face and nose with a pane of thick one way glass coming over their eyes so they can see out but others cannot see in. This is the same for the cockpit of the pilot which will come up and enclose over the pilot with pieces of one way glass. The mouthpiece is fashioned with a hatch that can open to enable them to attack while transformed.
  • Transformed flight speed: Can reach speeds up to 2500 mph

!! Overheating !!

Endragons have a time limit that they should remain transformed, due to their passive generation of ionic energy their bodies will naturally produce a lot of heat and can overheat if kept transformed in their gear for too long.

Overheating Endragons may display the following symptoms;

  • Confused and disoriented, unable or unwilling to follow commands
  • A severe drop in power causing gear or mechanical malfunctions
  • In severe cases an Endragon my fall unconscious resulting in complete failure of systems and an inability to sustain flight causing them to collapse or fall from the sky mid-flight
