Born in Lusia, capital of the Lusiads. His father, a fisherman and his mother, a school teacher. A happy family until a card accident ended his mother's life. His father withdrew into drinking, leaving Thyago alone. As soon as possible he joined the BAMF at 16 as a way to receive a higher education, where he studied History, just one year prior the Heaven's war beginning. One of the youngest captains of the BAMF, Thyago rose to his rank through a mix of skill, battlefield commissions during the Heaven's War and the ever decreasing number of trained officers in the fleet.

Of particular note in his career during the Heaven's War was a naval refugee escort mission where the then Commander Magellan rammed a destroyer class vessel into a pirate vessel of similar mass. Due to a stroke of luck and the already aging enemy ship's construction, Thyago's ship managed to get away with minimal damage. For this, he was given the nicknames, Al Brutan by the Qadeshi and Hammerhead by his crew.

He possesses a slender yet fit frame. Olive skin and black hair of a Lusiad. His organic natural eyes had been hazel, but he lost them during the Heaven's War. Qadesh biotechnology granted him a new pair. As an affectation from his youth, he wears titanium framed eyeglasses.

At his core an idealist and romanticist, Thyago is passionate about the moral duties of a soldier. He holds himself to a higher standard as an officer, especially one so young. He can be quite self critical of his own failings above others. Caring deeply for his men, Thyago always tries to keep morale up and lead by example. While generally amicable and well mannered, Thyago has no patience for the foolish and malicious. He has a penchant for melodramatic hyperbole, cultured referencing and a undertone of sarcastic and deadpan humor. He has no great political or military ambitions beyond serving his duty and perhaps explore the wider space. Initially signing on with Babel for higher education, His faith in the Lady's work solidified during the Heaven's War.
