Table of Contents
The Sadistic Spriggan is a stealth-capable Assault Frigate of the Messenger class that once operated as a smuggling/slaving ship under the employ of a dread-baron under the original name of the Messenger On Fire, with a long body and Beatle-like chitinous hull. It is easily distinguished by its unmistakable profile, immense firepower, and the markings of the Therewood clan of Eselberg Station.
A vessel of incredible infamy; Few see the Spriggan before it's too late, and the aftermath of its encounters tell more tales than the survivors it leaves.
Appearance
The Spriggan is a long and sinuous vessel, with a thick smooth shell influenced by angular and sleek designs of a smooth black hull with blue trimmings. A medium turret on the spine of the vessel, two light turrets on the front sides below two torpedo tubes, and three deployable missile racks under the bulbous beetle-like nose of the vessel show its teeth for all to see. Large mounts hold the ship's supporting engines in the rear, with fin-like support thrusters marking its sides like manta wings. Reinforced drop-pod doors line its belly.
No windows or such flaws to expose its occupants' sport this vessel.
Interior
The spriggan has three decks containing multiple compartments each.
Armory
A rather basic armory positioned close to the crew quarters, the spriggans armory is roughly the size of a large walk-in closet. With racks capable of holding weapons ranging from small arms to massive polearms and powered armored it allows the crew to store plenty of weapons or dangerous objects within its heavy, reinforced doors.
Bridge
The small bridge sits behind the armored beetles-head at the front of the vessel. Little more than a small bedroom in size it holds a custom interface where the pilot/gunner sits extremely intimately in close quarters with the two seats conjoined one behind the other in a straddling formation which allows both occupants to work in tandem.
There is also additional room in the bridge for observers with included seating for up to four others.
Crew Cabins
There are four standard cabins that berth two each via bunk-beds or an interchangeable double-bed. Each of these cabins contains a simple bathroom and washroom, storage space for two in a locker/chest combination, and is bare and left uncustomized but has hookups for a lot of customization from terminals and entertainment to different amenities.
Likewise, there is a single captains-cabin that is more luxurious than the others containing a king-sized bed, deluxe bath and washroom, personal equipment and possessions locker, and hidden smugglers cache. The captains cabin also contains multiple amenities such as wine-coolers, viewing screens, a kitchenette, sound system, and is highly customizable.
Crew Commons and Baths
A shared onsen-like bathing area makes up a large room at the end of the crew-quarters hall, while part of it is comprised of smaller showers and restroom stalls to facilitate those who might not like the open nature of the public bath or simply need to go to the restroom. A partition wall is normally deployed from the ceiling, allowing those who might be walking by to not see anything going on in the bathing area if they prefer to avoid it.
Engineering
A massive room consisting partially of the ship's massive engine chambers, the main generators, and life-support. Both of the entrances to engineering are small but tall rooms, containing multiple levels to allow direct access to the various rooms and systems aboard the ship with the use of a traditional ladders.
Fabricator Bay
Simplistic and to the point, the ship is outfitted with a Fabrication bay that one would find on most similar ships. A large platform allows the ship to build any blueprints they load into it up to the maximum dimensions of 5x5x5 meters. While this gives them many options for repairing or even building their own equipment, the bay is incapable of running while under full power-load and requires the stored raw materials to produce.
Hallways
Like any traditional spaceship of the modern age, the ship has hallways. Basic emergency airlocks are littered in wide, almost wall-width spots all over the various hallways and within doorways to allow the ship to lock any area that gets depressurized. The doors have release hatches, however, allowing manual override if there is no response from the bridge's command suite.
Hangar
The ship's hangar is, effectively able to double as a cargo storage and is positioned on the forward-spine of the ship. Able to fit a single moderately sized shuttle or fighter.
Holding Cells
Originally used to store captured slaves for trading the Holding Cells lined with armored walls and are remarkably cramped. Comprised of just a cubby hole the size of a closet with a drain in the center and manacles still lining the walls it is implied by the three sets of chains and manacles in each of the ten cells that three suffering captives were cramped and chained to stand in each cell with barely enough room to breathe.
An armored ferro-plastic door as strong as steel and transparent from the outside allows one to view inside.
In more recent days the holding cells make excelent secondary-storage.
Hydroponics
The automated hydroponics suite aboard the ship and connected to the wardroom is a boon for long-term spaceflight and exploration. To fit this need, and likely facilitate the needs of many space-faring merchants and mercenaries, an automated bay is positioned aboard the ship. Coupled with a connection to the ship's life support generator, the hydroponics bay works in tandem to create and mix gases as much as grow food and various plants that the crew might want. A very simple, separate algorythm program runs this bay, allowing the ship's owners to easily input new information and plants to grow various forms of meal supplements and even xenoflora.
Kitchenet
The ship contains a small kitchenette with a stove, oven, sink, etc. Enough for the crew to cook individually for themselves or for others. The kitchen contains a pantry, dry storage, freezer, and fridge.
Medical Bay
A rather traditional medical area, the ship doesnt go too far out of the way in this department. In particular, they've placed rather basic medical beds and portioned off part of it to treat someone in quarantine. Most of the availiable medical supplies are geared towards keeping the former slaves in the cells alive enough to make it to market.
Cabinets full of basic medical supplies, an operating table, and simple amenities exist to treat patients for non-fatal injuries until propper medical facilities can be reached.
Captains Quarters
A rather gaudy Captain's suite, the spriggan comes with an easily quartered-off room called the captains cabin. This room, through accessing a code panel near the inside of the door, can make up the space of several rooms.
With a massive king-sized bed, wine-coolers, viewing screens, a kitchenette, sound system, wardrobe, amenities, private bathroom and shower, armory locker, and is highly customizable.
Storage
The spriggan contains two cargo storage areas; One standard and one hidden.
One is the main storage space in the berth of the ship and is large enough to fit a single medium Standard Starship Cargo Containers.
A second, smaller space exists within the ship and is hidden behind a false wall in the captains-quarters large enough to fit a small cargo containing worth of contraband used for smuggling in the past.
Training Room
The training room, effectively a gym, is a fantastic gymnasium and holographic arena. One half of it has traditional workout equipment, such as weights and cardio trainers, while the other half has its various training gear and drones. The entire room, however, is fitted with holographic imagery panels and projectors. One can easily find various methods to get their training and workout fix whether they're doing it by lifting weights in a tranquil garden or having a shootout in an old world western street!
Wardroom
Inspired by the combining the kitchenette with a small, relaxing area, and mess hall into a large room. The wardroom is put near the rear of the ship, while the mess area rests in the middle of the room, and the various displays and sofas are huddled toward the ship's front side of the room.
Systems
Armor and Hull
The hull and armor of the spriggan consists of two types of materials. The shell-like plating of the ship is made of a ferros fibre metal, while its frame and inner hull levels are made of more sturdy and reinforced titanium. As a result, the ship can endure crash-level blows to its shell tremendously well, acting as a buffer to allow the ship to crash-land without damaging its cargo or risking its crew. However, this also exposes it to certain kinds of missiles or weapons that inflict more damage if they strike harder outer armor, if they bear enough strength to breach the ship's shell where they can get caught and cause more damage internally.
Computers and Electronics
In its current state, the spriggan is run with basic-level computers and terminals around the ship. This extends from a basic program for its engineering and maintenance monitoring, hydroponics bay, and its basic communication identification patterns.
Sensors
The sensors of the spriggan are fairly similar to those found in other ships of the frigate class: long range, but little diversity in detection. One needs to be careful heading into hostile space as a result.
Communications
Outfitted with a fairly powerful communications suite, the spriggan is able to convey and make contact using the traditional communication networks the owner will upload into it. Fitted with a universal translator, the ship is the ideal ship for a high-contact group like mercenaries or busy merchants.
Electronics
While its electrical suite is capable of bolstering its many services and shielding it from most passive detection suites, the spriggan is exposed as a vessel that wasn't intended for engaging specialized warfare ships. With a hard-set of controls on the bridge it can be manually flown by just the pilot or gunner.
It has some EWAR and ECM capabilities but not up to the spec of any dedicated or advanced military in the calliope star cluster.
Emergency Systems
Two escape pods on the ship are placed within its shelled living deck, where explosive bolt heads are positioned above the pods. These bolts, when activated, will drill up through the ship and into the armor shell above before detonating, blowing square hatches in and venting the escape pods straight up and away from the ship. Once clear, the pods will activate their boosters at max, firing the pods away. Each pod can house 15 people when fully packed, though the lack of a dedicated design means that the life pods are far from comfortable and focus on essentials. Each lifepod is stocked with a week's worth of oxygen, food, and water to allow the ship to escape and signal for help with a built-in relay.
Aboard the ship there are various measures to extinguish fires, close off ruptures in the hull, and to keep life support running even in worst-case conditions. Rather than rely solely on its generators, it has various small batteries scattered around the ship halls to keep an energy supply at all cost to sections that might get cut off.
Life Support Systems
While it may appear fairly standard, the ship benefits from an exceptional life-support system that can adjust the temperature, oxygen flow, and even the humidity inside the bed chambers of its bunks and the many rooms. This is thanks to a goal of providing a mobile home among the stars to those who want to always be moving, allowing great freedom and practically no fear of life support failure so long as the ship is kept in proper condition.
Power Generation
Primary Power
Two massive essium reactors, positioned in Engineering atop one another. The top reactor handles the most power-hungry machines such as the main engines and the various combat electronics. The lower reactor is focused on supporting the life-support, fabricator, and most minor forms of necessary power such as lighting.
Secondary Power
Four smaller fusion generators, placed along the corners of the Engineering deck, handle the hangar, communications, and act as back-up in the likelihood of main reactor failure.
Auxillary Power
Four separate rooms accessible only by maintenance bulkheads store much smaller fusion reactors, each one handling one of the ship's four engines. This ensures that even in the event of three engines failing that one has enough power to “man-handle” the ship if necessary with pushing the engines beyond their traditional output. In short, these reactors are running only when the VTOL are necessary such as for planetary landings or if the ship has been heavily damaged.
Stealth Systems
While it does has stealth suites and is as undetectable as a rich free-captain could make it. The spriggan is capable of evading the detections of all by military-grade specialized stealth-hunter vessels.
