'AUGUR' Project

The AUGUR project was an initiative taken by Babel Technology solutions on the orders of the board member Tiamat, and was devised from the combined theory of multiple BTS researchers; But was surmised the greatest contributions came from the research of the BTS researcher Umu Almaerifa Čehrāzād al-Qadesh bint Samara bint Albert Dantès d'Marseille1) during the War for the heavens.

The research proposed a set of hypothetical results brought about by invasive human experimentation on not only advance the capabilities of the body but the mind as well through a forced faux-evolution. While the research was mostly conjecture and hypothetical hyperbole; The first steps were taken to enact the project as one of the multiple redundancies for the refugees on the final colony ship to ensure a wide range of advantages for the people of the Remnant Conglomerate if they were to make it to their final intended destination.

Upon the final departure of the last colony ship, a large but unspecified number of subjects ranging in age from 13-17 were chosen from among the frozen survivors and were processed through the project while in varying states of lunacy and coherency. The project enacted a number of surgeries and treatments on them that ranged from correcting latent imperfections in their DNA and cell structure, to actual brain surgery to means unknown.

Finally, the actual mind of the subject was enhanced through the extremely invasive method of only half-freezing the body in a method of early suspended animation, while leaving the mind completely aware and lucid while hooked up to extremely rudimentary forms of subconscious indoctrination and machine learning while kept in almost absolute sensory-deprivation for the almost thirty year duration of the colony ships voyage; Creating a mind more advanced and able to process and understand greater and faster than most any baseline human, while in the youthful body of a late-teenager.

The survival rate of the program is unknown due to improper or tampered with census data.

First Generation Augurs

Upon being fully woken from their half-suspension and sensory deprivation it was discovered that the near overwhelming sensations of suddenly being brought back into full mental and physical consciousness and control were too much for many of them and resulted in several subjects going into a state of pure state of deranged lunacy that quickly turned violent in nearby physicians on call to treat them being subject to the horrible consequences of the program when many nearby were subject to conditions such as being degloved of all or most their skin depending on proximity to the subjects to even imploding or exploding into clouds of matter as their bodies were immaterialized into a red-mist of their base matter.

The program was considered a partial success considering that the subjects were able to exude powers beyond the scope of human understanding, even if the subjects were clearly unable to control either the powers or their own mental faculties.

Several follow-up tests were then performed as means to control the output of the first generation and to keep them mentally sane despite some of the unethical methods used. Most of these methods were invasive and inhumane but involved surgically harming or removing a function of the body of the subject; Resulting in the subject somehow immediately localizing and focusing all their mental faculties on the bodies imperfection at the exact moment of their awakening, where the subject would then in moments of extreme mental processing attempt to correct the imperfection, and afterward would be mentally drained enough to cause little harm and be stable enough to perceive their surroundings and interact with few if any psychotic episodes.

It was found through various surgeries and processes that while most of the subjects seemed to have the same range of abilities, they could be strengthened that the most efficient way to control the immediate and violent awakening of the subjects. These methods ranged from Chemically blinding the subject; Which would result in them developing senses and vision beyond the normal scope of human tolerance and capability, the most common of which is a passive form of echolocation, to even more drastic surgeries such as the removal of limbs making the subject a para or quadriplegic; Causing the subjects mental threshold and capacity to develop into what would widely be described as Telekinesis to make up for the lack of certain limbs.

Luckily, for some, the project was eventually discovered by other active members of the board of directors and was suspended pending an investigation due to the clear violations and atrocities committed on their people.

Before the program was suspended some four-dozen first-generation subjects were rescued by the Office of Internal Affairs - 'OIA'; Over half of them being placed into an intended permanent cryo-stasis due to their sheer mental instability, while the rest remained understudy and observation.

Second Generation Augurs

With some few hundred subjects still in semi-suspended animation, the project was once again reluctantly activated and was instead catered towards finding ways to safely wake and integrate the subjects back into normal society using as humane means as possible. Learning from the research of the first generation the subjects of the second generation were woken from their suspended animation but kept in sensory-deprivation tanks for extended periods of time ranging up to an entire year until their mental patterns normalized and it was deemed that the subjects were safe and stable enough to be released from their tanks.

As a reinforcement tactic subjects were woken in groups and kept isolated from non-augurs in secured underground facilities; Interacted with through screens and speakers and never in physical distance. With the help of the few stable and re-indoctrinated first-generation Augurs placed with these groups upon their awakening as leadership and guide figures, the second generation was able to tease out and learn their new abilities in controlled environments. While it became apparent that this method did not produce subjects as powerful as the first generation it was still considered a success, with the second generation being able to interact normally with researchers given time, and the only incidents among the second generation being far outliers.

The only downside to the second generation is that, like the Gol, Augurs are considered too dangerous to allow back into civilian life and are instead kept under the supervision of the Office of Internal Affairs - 'OIA' where they continue to train and develop their abilities and aid researchers of BTS understand their capabilities.

It is surmised when they are older and more able to control their powers that is possible Augurs might be able to acquire new contracts for civilian life or even in the Babel Armed Military Force - 'BAMF'.

Third Generation Augurs

Fourth Generation Augurs

With the success of the program, despite its unethical beginnings, the program was considered a success and research continues on the existing two generations and the possibility of the creation of a third. This section will cover that when it is created.

HyperGeometry

Augurs have a wide range of powers and abilities that are mostly only limited to their concentration and imagination. At their core Augurs are able to shape matter by touch2), move objects with their minds, and perform other feats beyond this list using just their imagination, willpower and concentration.

The name Hyper Geometry comes from the description of an Augurs ability to rapidly and suddenly change and shape matter and geometry.

Telekinesis

Telekinesis is the act of the Augur moving physical objects by pure willpower. This can range from atoms, to rocks, to even larger objects beyond even the physical capabilities of the human body. The power is affected by not only willpower but also emotion and the latent mental strength of the Augur.

As such an Augur under extreme mental duress and stress could possibly stop speeding cars or shake buildings, but is otherwise limited to limiting themselves to what they can actively control when focussing. Telekinesis is also able to grasp and control multiple objects but loses its strength when dividing up the mental faculties and attention of the Augur and on the other side of the coin is strongest when focusing on a singular task.

Telekinesis can be as finely controlled as moving individual atoms when focusing hard enough.

Matter Shaping

Matter shaping is the second most affluent and used power of an Augur. It is the ability to shape matter on a molecular level and alter it at will. This can range from the creation of objects from their base components3) to the dissolution of matter into its base carbon form.

The ability to shape matter and its efficacy is reliant on the skill of the Augur.

Static Manipulation

Static manipulation is the manipulation of the flow of ambient electrical energies by the Augur as an extension of their powers over electromagnetic fields.

This can range from controlling the very electrical signals of the Augur or another's body, to feeling and locating another being through the same process by locating the electrical signals and static emanations from the body.

More advanced forms of Static Manipulation can also include the tampering or interfacing with some technologies by manipulating the flow of their power and energy but is nothing like being able to talk to technology with the mind or remotely control technology.

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is not the ability to see into the future for an Augur but instead the ability to see far-off things that are even out of sight through a combined range of mental abilities. The amount of control over what is seen can vary wildly, depending on the talent and training of the Augur and usually at its base is good for looking through viewing screens such as looking back at someone in a security office, seeing into other rooms and through floors, and detecting hidden people by reading the flow of their surface emotions even without seeing them.

Precognition

While rare, it is possible for Augurs incredible mental prowess to specialize in limited predictions of the future. While it is less of a power and more taking advantage of their intense mental processing; It allows an Augur to sometimes predict the actions of an individual or their surroundings.

Empathic Reading

Empathic reading is the ability of the Augur to read the surface emotions of an individual. While not telepathy or mind reading it is useful to discern the intentions and feelings of people, animals, etc.

Biopsychokinesis

Biopsychokinesis is the bio-specific form of matter shaping. This ability is rare amongst Augurs to specialize due to even its high skill level requirements but otherwise is able to be performed at a base level by any and all Augurs.

At its base this allows Augurs to shape bio-matter of the human, animal, etc. level. But those not skilled in its use often can only inflict harm with it.

Those who specialize in it can perform the opposite; Able to reshape biomatter at will and can perform miraculous feats of rapid healing on not only themselves but also on others such as when given the base components can reknit bones, fix nerve or cell damage, connect new matter4), and rapidly accelerate the bodies ability to heal at a visual level.

Powers Incompatibile With Augurs

  • Pyrokinesis is not capable with first of second-generation Augurs at current.
  • Neither is Cryokinesis; The ability to freeze water or ice and control it.
  • Telepathy; The ability to read and influence or control another's thoughts via their own mind is not possible. Though reading surface emotions, or sending positive signals to the brain is.
  • Long-term flight is not possible using telekinesis, but limited flight such as hovering is~
  • Anything along the lines of shooting energy or mind-bullets…

Specialized Types of Augurs

While all Augurs have the full range of abilities their enhanced psychic enhancements allow them; Some Augurs are special and simply have a higher aptitude than others in a particular type of empowerment. This means that like everyone else Augur has their own strengths and weaknesses. These are manifested in an Augur usually specializing in a specific type of ability that they excel in compared to the others.

Type Description
Esper An Esper is an Augur who specializes in Telekinesis. This often manifests in much greater control and output compared to other Augurs.
Alchemist An alchemist5) is an Augur who specializes in matter-shaping and can control and shape greater portions of matter at greater speeds and with more advanced degrees of complexity and with little or no imperfections
Technogogue A Technogogue is an Augur with an aptitude at reading and controlling the flow of electrical signals around them. They are good with affecting Technology and even disrupting the bodies of people and act as controllable EMP generators on a whim
Bloodhound A Bloodhound is an Augur who specializes in clairvoyance to a degree they can see more and greater detail in their surroundings. They act as proverbial walking radars of their surroundings and can see far beyond their surroundings and do not need to rely on line of sight
Seer A Seer is an Augur who specializes in reading the flow and actions of their surroundings through precognition even greater than other Augurs. They can more accurately predict the future and do so passively. Allowing them to avoid their surroundings or influence them fluidly.6)
Psychic Surgeon Psychic Surgeons are Augurs who specialize in BioPsychokniesis. They are affluent in the control of bio-matter and can shape, form, heal, or destroy bio-matter with ease. Even their own.7)

Important READ ME

While first-generation augurs are unstable in the control of their powers but are exuberantly in the output and capability of their mental powers; Second generation augurs begin relatively weak in comparison and must develop their powers and exercise and cultivate them. A second generation augurs powers and capabilities should be treated like a muscle that grows as it is used; This analogy also sticks the same that over-exerting their powers can have the same effect as straining a muscle and can cause damage that if too far exerted can be permanent or even fatal.

This is intentional by design from an OOC standpoint. Your augur should be fresh and treated as a clean slate and canvas that you develop into a powerhouse over time with their own skillset and powers derived from the base powers the augurs have as compared to starting off as a being akin to a demigod.

Start off young and have your character learn and develop their powers into something their own such as a matter-shaper who doesn't dissolve or form matter but instead vibrates through it, an augur who has mastered some form of hypnosis, psychic screaming like a siren, vibrating molecules to create something akin to pyrokinesis, etc.

Trust me that building your character from the ground up in RP is 10000% more fun than starting as a jedi knight meets doomslayer.

Creating an Augur

Augurs are a unique and rare sight even in the Conglomerate despite them existing only there.

Augurs are also viewed as property by the Conglomerate and as such do not have the same rights or even a contract that most of its citizens have. This is due to the nature of Augurs being too young and dangerous to be trusted to be on their own and are not suitable for civilian life or activities.

When creating an Augur you should answer these questions:

  • Name - While Augurs all have their birth names. Part of their contract is that they are more or less anonymous in public and instead are referred to by their superiors and other Augurs by a callsign that is based on Tarot Cards that they are assigned. While you can name your Augur Ace of Cups you can also just as simply name him Sun, moon, or Fool. While there are only so many Tarot cards in the deck and many more Augurs it is perfectly possible for there to be more than one of the same Tarot, and that such titles are often up to interpretation and are issued on a team-by-team basis.

  • Age - How old is your Augur? Augurs were young teenagers when the program first began. And while they were kept in suspended animation for almost three decades despite being conscious they did then age normally after being woken fully and released from partial cryostasis which could be anywhere from a few months or even longer. They should be right at or older than 18 if it's intended that they be player characters.
  • Gender - Augurs can be male, female, or any gender identity between.
  • Height - Augurs are young, being at the start at least 18 so should not be as tall as a full-grown adult.
  • Weight - Being as young as they are Augurs should be lighter than a full-grown adult considering they spent an extended period in sensory deprivation without any physical activity.
  • Skin color - Augurs can be any skin color or ethnicity.
  • Hair - Augurs can have any length or color hair including facial hair for boys.
  • Eyes - Augurs can have any natural eye color. But with the added effect that Their eyes glow slightly.

  • Generation - Most Augurs fall into Generation II for now. First Generation Augurs are rare, unstable, and more powerful than a PC8) should be. Third generation Augurs have not been revealed yet and Fourth have not been created yet.

Equipment

Augurs are more than capable of making their own weapons and equipment by necessity through matter shaping. There is some common-issue equipment issued to them, however.

Psypistol

The Psypistol is a magnetically charged capacitor-driven mass-driver-based pistol issued to Augurs. The weapon is unique to Augurs due to their ability to make rapid calculations allowing them to make accurate shots with such an unwieldy weapon as a mass driver.

The weapon has a built-in scanner that lightly penetrates surface materials and scans their properties and base makeup for matter-shaping for Augurs without the skill to easily tell at a glance or sense the properties of a material. It can also tell carbon and gas readings in the air as well as other utilities most skilled Augurs can learn to do passively in time.

The weapon has a large rifle-style magazine with specialized 7.52×32 bullets with a thorium core that the Augur is trained to know the exact weight, diameter, and properties of that can be used as a smart-bullet using the firearms flip-open screen to plan bullet trajectories by using rapid mental calculations and telekinesis to guide the bullets to have some limited ability to change their trajectory for more accurate or skillful shots. Most Augurs know the exact dimensions of their bullets and can form more with acess to other metals, though without thorium it is unlikely they can guide the bullets. The fact that the firearm is a mass-driver powered by battery and capacitors means it doesn't require gunpowder and only requires a bullet and a casing to hold it and a small, easy to produce charge to seperate the bullet from its casing.

Augur Psypistol

Pychowatch

The Pychowatch is a normal device resembling a common analog wrist watch but serves the function of when attuned to an AUGUR can be channeled passively both a psychics latent static manipulation and perceptual powers to channel into a holographic display and works as a kind of life-signs detector slightly less powerful than actively sensing their surrounding but useful when attention is divided elsewhere. It can be enhanced by a psychic actively by funneling psychic energy into it and acts as a weaker and less-efficient version of what some bloodhound-oriented AUGURs are capable of but without requiring the skillset.

The pychowatch can show the locations usually in the form of a colored dot but without actively enhancing it is unreliable as to determining more than the mood/intent of the scanned individual and can read false-positives of friendlies as red enemy dots if it reads their powerful emotions such as a soldiers passion or anger in combat reading the hostile intent and vice versa with a potential enemy not overtly hostile showing as a friendly blue-dot.
