====== Gatalian Religion ======

In the absence of centralized education, religion is a dominant force in the people of [[locations:viliva_37:gatalia|Gatalia]]. Religious practices are a powerful method of spreading and learning philosophical and scientific ideas among the common people. The unfortunate side effect of this is that misinformation spreads like wildfire, and it is all too easy for problematic religions to spark from otherwise intelligent and well-meaning ideas. 

Tales, folk legends and mythology are commonly used to explain the world, sometimes inaccurately and others; with alarming accuracy. Even when a legend is intended to teach a rather potent and specific lesson, it can often times be told simply for entertainment. As a result, meanings can get mixed up. 

In cultures which have them, religions play a significant role in peoples lives. Even for those who do not believe, daily routines may entirely center around sayings and myths, and people may partake of religious activities as a matter of routine without realizing it (such as having their fortune read at the end of each week). In many ways, oral tradition is its own technology which makes many of the features of Gatalian society at all possible.
