A genus of humans. Gatalian humans are far more diverse than most other humans, having many species due to slow migration patterns millions of years ago.
The evolution of human life on Gatalia, although not understood in-character, has setting consistency. It originated in the lakelands of Urclien (the west continent), then forked out in two distinct migrations. One migration branched yet again, one group dominating the North and the other crossing with the first migration that had deviated South. From there, all 3 spread across the East Continent.
This migration took roughly 3 million years, and the occupation of the East Continent was significantly faster than the West. As a result, Urclien has more genetic diversity among its native populace, whereas the East Continent has more variety of species in each of its regions.
All gatalians are consistent with humans on Earth. They are all mammals, have 2 legs, 2 arms, opposable thumbs, a large cranium for a powerful brain, and so on. However, here are some key differences:
Giant species generally have 46 chromosomes, the same as modern humans, whereas dwarf species mutated to have only 44.
In most cases, the offspring of two separate species will be infertile. This infertility is more severe the less related the parent species are. Hybrids between giants and dwarfs are often almost completely infertile, due to having an odd 45 chromosomes, increasing genetic error in reproduction. Due to Haldane's rule, male hybrids are usually more likely and greatly infertile than females.
The gatalian life cycle and gestation is similar to modern humans. Most dwarf species mature at much the same rate, reaching adulthood around 16 or 18. Some giant species mature a little faster, maturing at around 14 or even 12.
All lifespans of species do not account for infant mortality. It is very common for children not to survive to adulthood. Worse, childbirth is often the most fatal part of a gatalian's life, both for women and the child being conceived. Although complications are relatively rare, they are frequent enough to be dangerous, and almost always fatal if not chronically debilitating.
Humans can be found in all terrestrial climates on Gatalia (Planet). They are all opportunistic omnivores.
Skin colour, hair colour and type, eye colour, height, weight, and proportions all vary depending on individual. The species of an individual also impacts height, weight and bodily proportions, but do not impact skin, hair or eyes as much.
You can find more information on the cultures of Gatalia here.
Gatalia's cultures are complex and not generally specific to any particular species.
There are many languages that gatalians use. Different regions use different languages, and some use multiple. Due to immigration, sometimes languages migrate between regions.
Most societies give people multiple names, though the purpose of each naming convention can vary drastically depending on the culture. There is no standard naming convention for the time being.
You can find information on governments and politics here.
The structure of Gatalia's societies does not tend to depend on species, instead depending on the history of said society and where it came from.
Gatalian humans are communal and form platonic bonds and rivalries with each other on a casual basis. Growing up, many humans have mentors and masters which train them in future trades. They also form pair bonds mono-amorously or poly-amorously depending on cultural norms and taboos.
Gatalians commonly war against each other for a variety of reasons. They may in some instances be hostile towards starfolk, but are incapable of warring against them due to the severe technological gap. Many people see starfolk as mythical creatures to be respected, revered, feared, or thoroughly avoided.
Each species has a statistics table. Below, it is outlined what each of the statistics on these tables mean.
Life Expectancy | How old members of the species get before they pass away, on average. This does not account for infant mortality. |
Sexual Dimorphism | How different males and females of the species are, on average. |
Height Range (M) | The normal heights of males. (Short - Average - Tall) |
Height Range (F) | The normal heights of females. (Short - Average - Tall) |
Species Group | E |
Life Expectancy | 30 |
Sexual Dimorphism | Very Little |
Height Range (M) | 190 cm - 215 cm - 240 cm |
Height Range (F) | 190 cm - 215 cm - 240 cm |
Geants (singular, “geant”) are a giant species which are normally lanky in build. They have flat teeth and a higher rate of pink or red eyes (ocular albinism) than other species. They also generally have less hair.

The hiniru miru (singular, “hiniru miru”) are a dwarf species with longer, more powerful legs than normal. They are often barrel chested and mesomorphic in build. Female hiniru miru have especially thick, fur-like hair across their bodies. Other common features include sharper teeth, especially pronounced canines, overbite, and large eyes.

Mundweren (singular, “mundwere”) are technically a species of giant, though you might not had guessed it based on their appearance and stature. Many of their traits are identical to that of an ordinary human.

Urzdwer (singular, “urzdwer”) are a dwarf species which are short and stocky. They often have large feet and shorter legs. Urzdwer have large noses and beards regardless of sex. Oddly, they tend to have just 28 teeth instead of 32.
