The Resheph desert is the largest desert biome region on all of Ereshkigal. It spans several thousand square miles and is quite possibly one of the only places on the whole planet it is never raining due to the intense heat collected in the obsidian grains despite the low sunlight.
The desert has a single oasis in its eastern region containing a massive lake with a river that is downstream of several other lakes and even connecting to an ocean to the northeast by several thousand miles. The rest of the desert is woefully devoid of much moisture other than water-bearing plants.
The desert is also home to many subterranean caves where some of its fauna live with bioluminescent fungus providing foodstuffs for much of its herbivores, while the less active carnivores either act as ambush predators to conserve energy, or as sub-surface hunters such as underground worms, the rare cave-dwelling endragon, or massive rokh birds large enough to carry off a full-grown man.
One of the most interesting features of the Resheph desert is that the pure obsidian grains of sand sparkle in the scarce light and while beautiful to behold can be disorienting or even create hallucinations.
