…When the Iron Company first appeared within our borders, it was not the typical contact of a merchant vessel or exploratory craft-or even a planet, but a heavily armed and armored patrol craft accidentally intercepting one of our frigates along the boundaries of the Scarlet Maze. This very nearly ended in disaster as without warning the vessels nearly collided with one another. This almost resulted in an exchange of fire between the two, though cooler heads barely managed to prevail. A tense exchange later, and the group eventually identified themselves as the Iron Company, a foreign mercenary unit that had recently entered the area. Negotiations were extremely tense to say the least, but eventually a deal was struck-the company would be able to continue to conduct operations in exchange in the event of war they must provide assistance. This clearly struck a nerve of sorts-but reluctantly agreed to provide limited support in the form of a small flotilla of patrol craft to assist in anti-pirate operations to keep supply lines open.. Since then, the Company has conducted limited operations, mostly operating in the Andrestate region of space through a medium sized space station, occasionally selling weapons and equipment to the Duskarian Nobility on the outer colonies…
The Iron Company was a mercenary faction that operated for close to a century in another universe before internal strife finally broke them apart, and was rebuilt nearly 50 years later by it’s sole surviving member. Their symbol was at the time a red and white shield with a gold cross on it, though the new one is a black shield with a single white star in the middle. Their standard uniform and equipment colors are Dark blue and gray, though may be recolored according to mission parameters, though individuals known as sentinels had dark green and gray, and usually a personalized coat of arms, while officers usually had a bronze, gold or silver trim to their armor and uniforms. Under the leadership of Albert Steiner, they had managed to rebuild, and for a time, flourished as new and rediscovered technologies began to propagate throughout their held territories until the realities of the Valhalla Galaxy came crashing down on them. A coalition of neighboring kingdoms, united out of fear or greed, came and demanded the company surrender. In spite of offers to share the technology and resources freely, the kingdoms attacked regardless, resulting in what the Company calls the Exodius war, a brutal 3 year campaign that resulted in the Iron Company’s retreat from their holdings and their sudden appearance in the Scarlet Maze. Happening across a trio of planets, the fleet realizing it would likely lose more of its number if they continued, including the six massive supercarriers carrying who and what they could save if they advanced any further. The worlds they were forced to settle are little more than barren rocks, but with perseverance and hard work, the first settlements were eventually constructed.
Parts from ships too badly damaged to fight or were barely space worthy were cannibalized to form the first structures on the surface. As the colonies were brought online, sealed and life support working away, more and more equipment was brought planetside, eventually resulting in a series of sealed underground facilities, buried as much for protection as they were for stealth. As operations began to steadily increase in pace, new vessels were constructed-fitted with new nav computers reverse engineered from their most capable ships. They slowly began to map the Nebula they were in, and after a routine scouting mission along its border nearly resulted in a shooting match between the NDC and their patrol craft resulted in rather tense negotiations-thus their employment to the Conclave began…
