Origins as a Viral Weapon:** The history of the Neldans can be traced back to a time when the Xelthorians, in their quest for power, developed a potent biological weapon known as the "Evo-virus." This virus was designed to target and manipulate the genetic makeup of other life forms, rendering them subservient to the Xelthorian empire. **2. The Evo-virus Escapes:** During a catastrophic experiment, a containment breach led to the accidental release of the Evo-virus. It rapidly spread through the Xelthorian laboratories, infiltrating various life forms and granting them exceptional psychic abilities. These altered life forms, previously unremarkable, began to evolve into what would later become the Neldans. **3. Emergence of the Neldans:** Over time, the affected life forms, now called Neldans, exhibited extraordinary psychic powers. They developed telepathy, telekinesis, and the ability to manipulate the fundamental forces of the universe. Remarkably, the Evo-virus had transformed them into a new sentient species with a deep connection to the cosmos. **4. Genderless and Eternally Connected:** The Neldans evolved into a genderless race, as their physical forms were no longer constrained by traditional reproductive methods. Instead, they achieved a state of unity and interconnectedness, with their psychic abilities enabling them to share thoughts and experiences effortlessly. **5. A Peaceful Civilization:** The Neldans, unlike the Xelthorians who created the Evo-virus, pursued a path of peace, wisdom, and harmony. They dedicated themselves to understanding the universe's secrets and sought to protect knowledge, culture, and the wellbeing of all life forms they encountered. **6. The Blackened Mountains loom on the horizon, their jagged peaks piercing the clear, azure sky. These mountains are believed to be the source of the planet's mysterious black sand, which covers the desert in a vast, ebony sea. === Ancient Ruins === Scattered across Everan's surface are the haunting remnants of the Xelthorian civilization, once a great and technologically advanced empire. The ruins, partially consumed by the relentless sands of the desert, are a testament to the lost knowledge and glory of the past. === The Mother Tree === In the heart of the lush jungles on the Wet Side, the Mother Tree stands as a symbol of life and resilience. Due to the reproductive capabilities of their people, one of the mates separates their inner form and attaches to the other mate. At this point for the next 6 months. This sudo budding process begins copying over DNA from the other mate and shared memories from the mate, building a psionic connection between the two of them. After 6 months the organism falls off and crystallizes itself in the form of a stony egg as it gestates for another 6 months. At that point, the creature in this form hatches from the shell what comes out is a humanoid form covered in an almost transparent exoskeleton. In this form it's very susceptible to other predators and will instinctively look to the nearest adult for protection, If it can't sense its parents psionic signature nearby. Within the next 10 years, the body of the offspring would begin to come to its parent's full height as it grows into its exoskeleton. Once fully developed it would begin learning from its parents how to act within its caste from dedicated to job training. After 100 years it has a coming-of-age test which is different depending on the caste. Once complete the Nalden is considered an adult and expected to fulfill its caste roll or rolls. When they begin getting to the end of their life cycle there are two options for it. Go on the walk of the ancients, where they would begin to pick up on the distant psionic signatures of their people and walk in that direction. Their exoskeleton during this time would no longer be molting as it overgrows and slowly throughout this walk entombing them as they pass on, their psionic signature by this point leaving their body and becoming one with the planet. The other option is to become a Bazerker, becoming a synthetic Nalden, the synthetic body capable of all the same features of the pure Naldens. The bazerkers by this point are meant to venture away from the planet in the hope to make a connection with people among the stars for their people. ==== Gender ==== Gender roles are nearly non-existent both male and female genders exist but due to the body types of the Nalden being devoid of common distinguishing features most tell the difference between each other based on their psionic signature. ===== Culture ===== ==== The Neldan Caste System: Guardians of Heritage and Artistry ==== The Neldan caste system is a multifaceted societal structure that reaches deep into the annals of history, connecting the Neldan people to their tribal origins, their cosmic heritage, and their artistic traditions.
