 +When the mortal end of the pact dies, the demon is not immediately forced out of the place in which they've come to, should they be a non-native of that place.  The energy of hte pact lingers, letting them remain in a place for some time.  The length of which varies, as it is highly dependant on the strength and depth of the pact.  A pact that was purely an exchange of a soul for a brief moment of power or such, would have the demon leave very quickly, but a pact that was deeply built, long lasting, and mutually welcomed by both sides could last for decades.
